(go to drop down tab under Condition Fact Sheets)
Health risk behaviors are unhealthy behaviors that can be changed. Of these health risk behaviors are lack of exercise or physical activity, poor nutrition, tobacco use, and drinking excessive alcohol. These behaviors can cause much of the illness, suffering, and early death related to chronic diseases and conditions.
According to the National Health Interview Survey (NCHS) conducted in 2015,
- For both sexes combined, as age increased, the percentage who met the 2008 federal physical activity guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities decreased.
- For adults aged 18-24 and 25-64, women were less likely to meet the 2008 federal physical activity guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities compared to men.
